The objective of this paper is to evaluate the contribution energy storage systems resource adequacy power experiencing increased levels renewables penetration. To end, a coherent methodology for assessment system capacity and calculation value presented, utilizing Monte Carlo technique. main focus on short-duration storage, mainly battery (BESS), whose values are determined different configurations. Alternative operating policies (OPs) implemented, prioritizing cost or reliability, demonstrate significant effect management may have its adequacy. A medium-sized island used as study case, applying mixed integer linear programming (MILP) generation scheduling model simulate BESS operation under each OP, in order determine overall performance terms renewable sources (RES) penetration, lifetime expectancy. This reveals that can be (capacity credit up ~85%), with proving most parameter. Energy at same time enhance reduce support RES integration, provided it appropriately managed; combined reliability-oriented cost-driven approach shown yield optimal results.
